******************************************************************

During the last decade, Israeli documentary films dealing with the middle-east conflict have boomed throughout the world, winning Oscar nominations, prizes in the biggest film festivals and rave reviews for their brave creators.
In an era when news journalism has lost its interest and its ability to cover the conflict, documentary films have become the main testimony and sometimes the only source of information regarding the situation in the West Bank.
It is a success story in which art beats politics, but a few hard questions remain: How are these movies being made? From which point of view? To which eyes are they intended? And what can we learn from the things they choose not to show?

Using examples from the best Israeli documentaries from recent years ("Checkpoints", "Five Broken Cameras", "Waltz with Bashir" and more), the workshop will suggest a few possible answers, highlighting the unique position of Israeli documentary makers.

The workshop is apolitical.

The workshop will end with a documentary submitted to ClipAward 2013:

Breaker by Wesam Mousa (Gaza 2011; 26 min)

The film is produced in cooperation with the Initiative of Youth Cinema for Change.
